10 Days in Morocco by Car: The Ultimate Road Trip from Marrakech to the Sahara

Hi! In October 2025, my wife and I headed to North Africa. We wanted to explore a new continent without spending ages in transit — Morocco turned out to be the perfect choice. The country is separated from Europe by just the narrow Strait of Gibraltar, yet it feels incredibly authentic: ancient medinas, noisy street markets and real chaos at every intersection. Over nine days, we packed in as much as possible: visited six cities, spent a night in the desert and saw locations that looked more like movie sets than real places. I’ll tell you how the trip went and share photos so you can fall in love with this country too.

My wife and I wanted a packed itinerary without suffering from the heat or relying on buses. So we decided on a road trip. Morocco is most comfortable in spring and autumn: warm enough to wander around, not just survive under the blazing sun. We picked October as the sweet spot. During the day, temperatures hover around +24–26 °C, while evenings get cool enough to need a light sweater.

We picked up the car right at Casablanca Airport and dropped it off there on our way back. We got a battered Peugeot with a rear door that had to be opened from the outside — in case a passenger suddenly wanted to get out. The pleasure cost us 40 USD per day. Still, we drove calmly across the whole country, and the roads turned out to be surprisingly good everywhere.

If you decide to repeat our experience, make sure to film a 360° video when picking up the car. Also keep in mind that in Morocco you can get fined even for a minor speeding violation, so watch the signs. And carry cash — parking meters are usually out of order, but there are parking attendants almost everywhere who charge about 0.5 USD.

Our day in Casablanca kicked off with the medina. We wandered leisurely through the winding alleys, peeked into spice shops and watched artisans and vendors at work. From there we made our way to Mohammed V Square and then to the well-kept Arab League Park. The contrast was striking: out of the cramped, noisy streets into open space, greenery and calm, with people out for their morning jog.
